✨ Meet the Students: Matthew✨
Matthew joined the NEST Lab as an MA-PhD student in experimental psychology in 2024 via the University of Ottawa. He holds degrees in Neuroscience from the University of Toronto and Psychology & Entrepreneurship from uOttawa. He is fascinated by the underlying mechanisms of neurological systems and is deeply passionate about improving care and accessibility for individuals with mental health disorders. Working in the NEST Lab allows him to integrate these interests by investigating novel, personalized, and non-invasive treatment approaches for depression, using modalities such as rTMS, TBS, tDCS, and EEG to better understand and optimize neural circuit modulation.
Drawing on a broad interdisciplinary background in physician wellbeing, nutrition and food sciences, implementation science, and smart cities, he aims to further develop these skills to support the translation, advocacy, and scalable implementation of empirically validated and personalized rTMS interventions for individuals with treatment-resistant depression.

✨ Meet the Team: Sara ✨
Dr. Sara Tremblay is the Principal Investigator and Director of the rTMS Neuromodulation Research Clinic. She joined the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research (IMHR) at The Royal in 2018, where she established a neuromodulation research platform to advance and refine rTMS treatment paradigms in the region.
Dr. Tremblay holds a PhD in Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology from the Université de Montréal. She completed postdoctoral fellowships at University College London and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto. She is also a tenured professor and clinical supervisor in the Psychoeducation and Psychology Department at Université du Québec en Outaouais.
💬 “rTMS offers us a whole new way of looking at mental health treatment, where we can identify malfunctioning circuits in the brain, and effectively treat them in a non-drug, non-invasive way.”
✨ Meet the Team: Stacey ✨
Stacey joined the rTMS Neuromodulation Research Clinic in 2022 and serves as the Clinic Manager, bringing nearly a decade of clinical research experience. She holds a Master’s degree in Neuroscience from the University of Ottawa.
At the clinic, Stacey oversees clinical operations and research activities, with expertise in rTMS, EEG, and the coordination of multi-center clinical trials. She began her career at CAMH’s Temerty Centre for Therapeutic Brain Intervention, where she specialized in TMS and EEG research, later transitioning into clinical trial coordination and internal monitoring to ensure quality and compliance. She returned to The Royal to help grow and advance the Neuromodulation Research Clinic.
🥾🎨 In her free time, she enjoys hiking and do art sketches!
✨ Meet the Team: Emma ✨
Emma joined our rTMS Neuromodulation Research Clinic in 2024. She holds an MSc in Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health from King’s College London.
In the clinic, Emma oversees participant involvement in clinical trials, conducts comprehensive clinical assessments, and manages ethical and clinical compliance. She has worked across a range of research environments, including Middlesex University and the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, contributing to clinical trials and publications in neurology and mental health. Her interests include biological sex differences in neuromodulation.
✈️🧩 In her free time, she enjoys traveling and doing puzzles!
✨ Meet the Team Thursday: Kamila ✨
Kamila is an rTMS Technician and Research Assistant at The Royal’s Neuromodulation Research Clinic. She administers rTMS treatments, supports EEG sessions, assists with clinical assessments, and helps care for participants in treatment-resistant depression studies. She holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Ottawa.
Her experience spans both research and clinical settings, with interests in brain-based interventions, cultural mental health, and emotion regulation.
📸 In her free time, Kamila loves film photography!
✨ Meet the Team Thursday: Rosalie ✨
Rosalie joined our rTMS Neuromodulation Research Clinic in 2024. She holds an Honours BSc in Biomedical Science (Neuroscience) from the University of Ottawa, where she completed an EEG-based honours project on neurocognitive processes involved in problem-solving.
In the clinic, Rosalie administers rTMS treatments, conducts clinical assessments, and supports data collection and analysis. She also coordinates our exercise study and helps oversee ongoing research projects. Her interests include neuroplasticity, predictors of treatment response, and the links between cognitive, mental, and physical health.
🎿 Outside the lab, Rosalie enjoys staying active through skiing, volleyball, and ultimate frisbee!
✨ Meet the Team Thursday: Mojtaba ✨
Mojtaba joined our rTMS Neuromodulation Lab in 2024. With an MSc in Neuroscience and a background in Neurophysics, he brings 6+ years of research experience in EEG, signal processing, and brain connectivity analysis using MATLAB and Python.
In the lab, Mojtaba delivers rTMS, records EEG, and builds automated preprocessing pipelines. He also mentors students and helps with participant recruitment and data management.
⚽ Outside the lab, he enjoys soccer and is always open to research collaborations!
